Message :I went to my garage to troubleshoot today. I hooked up the booster box and cranked her up. She was a bit rough due to having been sitting for almost 5 months but she started up and ran smooth. I let her run for a few minutes. She was idling around 800 RPM's. After about 3 minutes, I got in and hit the gas and of course, she died on me as soon as I touched the gas. This is the same thing that happened back in May. I started her back up and she was jumping between a coupel hundred-900 RPM's. This happened for about 5-10 minutes until after tapping the gas, it went back to smooth idle around 800 RPM's again. Of course, it died after hitting the gas from there just like always. I just want to know what the problem is.
:I have a Blazt cable and datascan on the way. I just ordered it today from forum sponsor whatsthegoodword. I am also waiting on a boost leak tester to come in the mail. I am assuming since she ran perfectly fine the first time (until I hit the gas) that a leak is not the issue here. Any tips? Here is a video from back in May that still fits the bill:

Ok, I am a noob here, but I went through almost exactly the same idle woes as you. So , perphaps you will get something out of my previous frustration!. Hope I can help another fellow Z.

Now, I do everything the gun shot approach. So, I am not sure what exactly fixed my issue but the tasks I took definitively took care of them.

1. Changed the spark plugs. Bought the proper NGk.

2. Cleaned out the balance tube. It was full of junk. Blasted a good can of carb cleaner. it was nasty in there. Before replacing the balance tube, I made sure I installed new O rings seal and as a added measure put down some liquid silicon gasket as well.

3.Cleaned out the NGK Filter. Blasted the MAF sensor with electrical cleaner. A good blast for sure. Tighten ALL HOSES around the MAF cleaner.

4.Cleaned out the throttle bodies as per the FAQ.

5.replaced the engine coolant sensor. Cleaned out the contacts.

6.Cleaned out, the contacts for the TPS sensor.

thats was it. My nasty idle, similar to yours is now gone! Car runs sweet!

good luck!
